The year was 1893... The “Aloha Oe” bracelet was a gift from Queen Lili’uokalani to Zoe Atkinson, headmistress at an all girls school adjacent to the Iolani Palace, just days before the end of the Monarchy. “Aloha Oe” was the title of the Queen’s famous song. After wearing the bracelet to school, many of the students wanted similar bracelets for themselves. It was during this time that many of the customs surrounding Hawaiian Heirloom Jewelry were born.
